Across the UK, thousands of people step into taxis and private hire vehicles every day - often without knowing who is behind the wheel. While over 381,100 taxi and private hire driver licences are currently issued in England alone, there is no single national register that helps passengers verify whether a driver is genuinely licensed, insured and safe to travel with.
At the same time, unlicensed and illegal taxi operations remain a persistent problem, putting passengers at risk and undermining the work of legitimate drivers. These illegal operators often drive without proper insurance, without DBS checks and without meeting the safety standards required of licensed drivers.
CabSafe.uk exists to change that.
What We Do.
CabSafe.uk is an independent verification service designed to bring transparency, trust and safety back to the UK taxi and private hire industry.
We verify:

Local council licensing - confirming the driver is legally licensed to operate

Vehicle registration - checking the vehicle is correctly registered

MOT status - ensuring the vehicle is roadworthy and compliant

Insurance validity - confirming the correct hire‑and‑reward insurance is in place
